Inspired by the exorbitant rise in the prices of the every day items we buy, we’re here to consolidate a large list of whether your local service provider may be Private Equity (“PE”) backed.
Unfortunately, some Private Equity backed firms are known to dramatically increase prices, all while significantly cutting costs. When the service the firms are providing are life & death stakes, people are right to wonder whether they should be taking their business elsewhere. Not every Private Equity backed firm aggressively cuts costs, or becomes too expensive, but given the significant amount of horror stories, it seems paramount to put together a tracker.
Thankfully, some organizations have started tracking processes. Over time, we’re here to try to figure out how to consolidate and track Private Equity backed firms by industry.
Private Equity Tracker
See below our trackers by industry.
Hospitals
PE Stakeholder runs a Private Equity Hospital Tracker Map. 488 hospitals in the U.S. are owned by Private Equity, with 28% of them serving rural populations. Texas has the most PE backed hospitals at 108, while 36.2% of New Mexico hospitals are PE-owned.

Vets
Private Equity Vet created their database after their beloved dog paid the ultimate price at a recently acquired PE-owned practice.
They created a searchable map of 6,000+ Vets in the U.S. believed to be owned by PE or large corporations.

Additionally, below another is veterinary practice ownership verification that has a searchable online database for the state of Arizona . It is run by CARE for Pets, see here.
Dentists
The Private Equity Stakeholder Project. This group has strong literature on healthcare deals, doing a substantive writeup on 2024 Healthcare transactions here.
While there isn’t a specific database for this, PE Stakeholder’s tracking of monthly healthcare transactions shines a spotlight on several dentist related add-ons. We’re including some transaction examples below.
Fossil Fuels
Environmental groups such as the Private Equity Climate Risks Organization have been tracking PE involvement with gas pipelines, power plants, E&P companies, and LNG terminals
Their tracker includes 600 fossil fuel assets backed by 20 PE companies.

Mobile Homes
While a lot of the folks reading this are less impacted by this, the trend of private equity firms buying up mobile home parks is quite worrying. Often times, the consumer owns their own mobile home but the Private equity firm owns the land. Uplifting one’s home is quite an expensive endeavor for lower-income people, so there is some capture for PE firms that elect to increase lot prices.
Funeral Homes
Resources on Funeral Home rollups:
I am going to work towards building up this section, but here is a list of initial resources related to firms that are rolling up funeral homes.
What’s Next?
A lot more.
We just need to figure out how to best assemble lists for other industries.
Our DMs are overflowing with questions around how to track for HVAC repair and other consumer companies. It’s clear to me people want to understand if the home services companies they work with are going to exorbitantly upsell them, and how they can buy local instead.
